INFO
Winspear is pleased to announce the release of its first label compilation, Winspear Volume 01. This collection features a selection of the label's most notable tracks from their catalog, songs by Barrie, Divino Niño, Slow Pulp, Video Age, and others. The digital version of the compilation includes previously unreleased demos, b-sides, and rarities from across the label roster. The release is out Jan 27, 2023 on physical/digital. On Dec 13, you can hear three of those archival tracks from Barrie, PARTS, and The Convenience.
"Doesn't Really Matter" is a single taken from Barrie's vast stockpile of songs. The track was originally a demo recorded during the sessions for her recent album 'Barbara', but it never made it onto the final release. It features simple, stripped-down instrumentation, with warm guitar strums and harmonizing vocals taking center stage. The chorus is particularly powerful, bursting with energy and emotion. The song is Barrie’s first since returning from tours supporting Alex G and Japanese Breakfast.
"Crush" is the first new music in six years from the enigmatic synthpop duo PARTS. The duo of Alyssa Midcalf and Marley Ferguson released their sole project in 2016: three songs that were praised by Gorilla vs. Bear and GoldFlakePaint, among others. However, they soon parted ways to focus on their solo endeavors – marsfade & Primer. "Crush" is a never before heard track, unearthed from the time the duo was still writing together, showcasing their unique blend of synthpop and electronica.
“Don’t Play With Magic” is a song fans of The Convenience may know if they’ve been following the band for sometime. Originally released on their Bandcamp in 2018, the song was one of the first collaborations between Nick Corson and Duncan Troast of The Convenience and Ross Farbe from Video Age, who mixed the song. Ross and Ray of Video Age would eventually invite Nick and Duncan to join their band. The release of Winspear Volume 01, will bring the track back to streaming and give listener’s a taste of the early Convenience sound.
The compilation is available to pre-order on limited edition black vinyl (500 copies available worldwide). CD, tape, and tees also available.
